Police investigate deadly Monday hit-and-run

Police are seeking help as they investigate a fatal Monday morning hit-and-run on the Baltimore Washington Parkway.

U.S. Park Police officers responded to reports of a crash around 2:20 a.m. on the Parkway south of Powder Mill Rd. in Beltsville. They found that a vehicle driven by Louis Poteat, 72, of Seat Pleasant, had been rear-ended. Poteat died from related injuries later that morning, police said.

Police said they are are looking for a dark-colored Mercedes with front-end damage, which they said hit Poteat’s vehicle and left the scene.

The Mercedes may have been in a race heading northbound on the Parkway with a silver Lexus, according to police.
