Police investigate stabbing death in Columbia

A man who was fatally stabbed in a Howard County parking lot Tuesday afternoon managed to set off a car alarm — alerting a neighbor to his condition — before collapsing on the ground, police said.

The stabbing occurred around 4:30 p.m. outside an apartment complex in the 5500 block of Harper’s Farm Road in Columbia.

Police responded after a resident inside the building called 911. The resident reported that he heard his car alarm activated and, when he went outside to check it, he saw a bleeding man lying on the ground.

Investigators believe the victim set off the alarm as he fell against the car, after he was stabbed.

The victim was transported to Howard County General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said the man’s identity will be released once his family has been notified of his death.

Police are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case. Detectives believe there may have been witnesses in the area at the time of the stabbing and ask that anyone with information call 410-313-STOP.
