A Florida man has been arrested for allegedly raping a girl in Silver Spring more than 30 years ago and detectives are investigating whether there may be other victims, according to Montgomery County police.
Christopher Chamblin, 48, of Davie, Fla. is accused of sexually assaulting the then 6- or 7-year-old on multiple occasions in the late 1970s, according to police. At the time, he was between 14- and 16-years-old and he lived in Silver Spring.
Chamblin has been charged with first-degree rape. He allegedly threatened to harm the girl and her family if she told anyone about the assault, according to police.
Detectives began working on the case in 2009 and issued a warrant for Chamblin’s arrest last month. He was taken into custody in Florida and extradited to Montgomery County, according to police. During the investigation, detectives discovered there may have been other victims, according to police.
Police are asking anyone with knowledge of Chamblin engaging in appropriate acts with minors to call the Family Crimes Division at 24-773-5400. Callers can remain anonymous.
