The man entered the store in the 2500 block of Benning Road NE about 1:52 a.m., police said. He indicated that he had a weapon under his shirt, ordered a person in the store to the ground and then left with an unknown number of cigarette packs, according to police.

Authorities released a photograph and short surveillance video of the suspect, who was described as a black man in his 30s, standing 5-7 or 5-8, with a light complexion.

He wore a tan hat, green windbreaker and glasses, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099 or text 50411.
