Police shoot man in NW

D.C. police shot an armed man in Northwest on Thursday night after he fired at them, police said.

Police responded to a call about a man with a gun in the 5800 block of 13th Street NW near Missouri Avenue shortly before 9:30 p.m., said Officer Hugh Carew, a spokesman.Upon arriving, the officers saw that the man had a shotgun, and they chased him into a nearby alley, a law enforcement source said.

The man dropped the shotgun but produced another gun and fired at the officers, the source said.

The officers then shot the man, who suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening. The man was transported to a hospital.

No one else was injured, Carew said.
