Pr. George’s jury convicts man of murder during robbery

A Prince George’s County jury Friday convicted a Landover man of murder and other charges in connection with an attack in Seat Pleasant that left one man dead and another wounded, State’s Attorney Angela D. Alsobrooks said.

The jury convicted Jerrod Peterson, 21, of Palmer Park in the March 27, 2009 murder of Domonique A. Gordon, who was 26. Gordon and another man were sitting in a car in Seat Pleasant when Hughes and an accomplice approached them and demanded money, according to police charging documents.

Gordon and his friend fought Peterson and Thomas F. Hughes, the charging document states. During the struggle, Gordon and his friend were both shot. Gordon died, and the friend survived.

Hughes, 24, of Landover, earlier pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery with a deadly weapon, prosecutors said. Hughes and prosecutors agreed to a sentence of eight years in prison. Hughes is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 16.

Peterson faces a possible sentence of life in prison when he is sentenced Sept. 2.
