Prince William County police arrested a Woodbridge man Tuesday after he assaulted an officer, police said.
Daniel Mehdi Razjooyan-Sosa, 25, of the 12800 block of Hunterbrook Drive was charged with assault and battery of a law enforcement officer after he punched an officer outside the Garfield District Police Station just before 2 p.m. Tuesday
The officer, whose name and rank is not being released, was walking to his car when Razjooyan-Sosa struck him several times in the face, police said. The officer did not provoke or know his attacker, police said. Police said officers inside the building saw the assault and ran to the parking lot to pull Razjooyan-Sosa away. The officer who was assaulted sustained minor injuries to his face, police said.
Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said this type of unprovoked attack is rare.
Razjooyan-Sosa was taken to a mental hospital for evaluation. He is being held without bond.
