Pr. William police officer, Chris Yung, killed in crash

A Prince William County police officer was killed Monday afternoon in a wreck while responding to a call.

Around 2 p.m., Officer Chris Yung, 35, crossed over the intersection at Nokesville Road and Piper Lane in Manassas while responding to a crash, according to a news release. A mini-van taking a left into the shopping center at the intersection collided with Yung, who was assigned to the county’s traffic unit as a motorcycle officer, police said.

Yung was on his motorcyle when the accident occcurred, according to Officer Jonathan Perok, a department spokesman..

Yung was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. There were no other injuries reported.

Yung had been with the department for seven years, police said. Perok said the department would not release any further information, including whether the officer’s lights and siren were on at the time of the crash..

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
