Baby dies after pregnant woman stabbed in Southeast D.C.

The unborn baby of a pregnant woman who was stabbed in the stomach early Thursday in Southeast has died, police said.

The Special Victims unit is investigating the attack, which took place about 2:30 a.m. in the 4200 block of 9th Street SE.

Police said the woman, who was eight months pregnant, was taken to a local hospital. There were no details available on her condition Thursday afternoon.

Officials have not released a description of the suspect. It is unclear if the woman knew her attacker, though police say there were no apparent signs of forced entry in the building where she was stabbed.

The unborn baby was delivered and later pronounced dead, police said.

Police are offering a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the attacker. The police tip line is 202-727-9099.
