Prison for trucker after crash killed Md. woman

RAVENNA, Ohio — A Pennsylvania truck driver has been sentenced to five years in prison in a multi-vehicle Ohio Turnpike crash that killed a university professor from Maryland.

Forty-nine-year-old Douglas Bouch of Greenville, Pa., was sentenced Thursday in Ravenna by Portage County Common Pleas Judge John Enlow.

The trucker pleaded guilty in October to one count of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault.

The car driven by 47-year-old Susan Slattery of Cockeysville, Md., was rear-ended in 2010, killing her and injuring sons ages 12 and 16. Authorities say Bouch fell asleep and his truck hit five other vehicles. He was uninjured.

Slattery’s husband, Ed Slattery, tells The Baltimore Sun he hopes the sentence persuades lawmakers and the trucking industry to address driver fatigue.
