SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk school officials say a sixth-grade student who brought a large knife aboard a school bus has been suspended.
City spokeswoman Diana Klink says the 14-inch knife was in the student’s backpack when he boarded a bus to Kings Fork Middle School on Monday. Another student told the bus driver, who contacted school officials.
Klink says the principal confiscated the knife. No one was injured.
WAVY-TV reports that during questioning, the 12-year-old student admitted he was being bullied by a classmate and brought the weapon for protection.
Suffolk schools spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw says the student has been recommended for expulsion under the school system’s weapons policy.
