A Prince William County couple is facing felony child abuse charges for allegedly keeping their three children in a bedroom and nailing drywall over the doorway, according to Prince William County Police.

John Michael Robey, 33 and Christina Dawn Moore, 26, of Bristow, were arrested on Saturday after their 4-year-old escaped from the room by climbing over the five-foot-high piece of drywall and going to a neighbor’s house for help, police said.

The neighbor then went to the family’s home and freed the other two children, who are 2 months old and 2 years old, and alerted authorities. The room where the children had been trapped was covered in feces and urine, and the children were naked, police said.

It appeared as if the children had been in the room for less than a day and they didn’t show signs of malnutrition, said Officer Jonathan Perok, a spokesman for the Prince William County police.

The couple were taken into custody and the children were placed in protective custody. Robey and Moore are being held without bond.

Insidenova.com reports that Moore was charged with felony child neglect in 2005 after her twin, 22-month-old boys were found walking alone on a Prince William County road. The outcome of that case was not known.
