Safety chief named for Baltimore Co. schools

BALTIMORE — Baltimore County’s schools superintendent has named a school safety chief following two gun-related incidents this year.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Dallas Dance named Dale Rauenzahn to the position of executive director of school safety and security on Tuesday. Rauenzahn has served as the school system’s head of student support services.

Dance announced plans to create a safety office after the two gun cases.

In August, a Perry Hall High School student was critically injured in a shooting on the first day of school. Weeks later, police say a student brought a loaded gun to a middle school in Essex and threatened his teacher and classmates.
