Second arrest in Lenny Harris killing

A second man has been arrested in connection with the slaying of Alexandria activist Lenny Harris, who was fatally shot and then dumped into a Prince George’s County well in September, authorities said.

Harris, 53, went missing in September. Last week his remains were found in a well on a long-vacant property in Fort Washington.

Linwood Johnson, 49, also has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Harris’s death. Police have said they think Harris’s attackers set out to rob him.

Like Johnson, Newman has a minor criminal record. In April, he was charged with fourth-degree sex offense for having consensual sex with a 15-year-old, then taking a laptop from her home. That case is ongoing. He also has an ongoing theft case in Charles County.

Police have not elaborated on the role they think each suspect played in the crime, and they said they are still looking to charge at least one other person.
