A gunman shot and wounded a drug store employee Friday afternoon during a robbery in Northeast Washington, D.C. police said.
The attack happened in the 1400 block of Rhode Island Avenue about 12:30 p.m., when a man believed to be in his late 40s or early 50s attempted to rob a man working behind the counter, police said. The gunman fired and wounded the employee during the encounter and then fled the store, said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman.
The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries believed to be non-life threatening, Carew said.
Police officials released a YouTube video of security footage taken during the robbery, which shows the suspect walking through the store’s front door, then searching behind a counter, before pointing a handgun at the victim.
The suspect is described as a black man with medium complexion, wearing an off-white or khaki cap, a red hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and black shoes.
Police did not say if the man took any cash during the robbery.
