Suspect arrested in National Mall robbery attempt

U.S. Park Police arrested a man they say tried to rob a woman on the National Mall on Thursday morning. It was the second such attack in recent weeks.

Sgt. David Schlosser said that around 10 a.m. Park Police were called to a pathway between the Mary Livingston Ripley Garden and the Arts and Industries Building in the 900 block of Jefferson Drive SW.

They found a Smithsonian Museum officer and several citizens holding onto a man, Schlosser said.

Schlosser said the man, who is a District resident, was arrested and charged with robbery. His name was not released.

The victim was an adult female, Schlosser said.

Park Police are still investigating a March robbery attempt in a similar location. “These are issues that the Park Police detectives are investigating, the similarities betwwn these two. That investigation is ongoing,” said Schlosser.
