Suspect hits officer with car in escape attempt

A Manassas man carrying a carload of illegal drugs struck a police officer with his car on Tuesday as he tried to escape arrest, Prince William County police said Wednesday.

The officer was not seriously injured.

Police tried to stop the man in his car at Sudley Road and Grant Avenue because they suspected he had marijuana, police said.

He ignored officers’ commands to stop and sped off, hitting one officer and almost striking another, police said. Officers chased him and stopped him, then searched his car, finding a scale, packaging material, cocaine, and cash, they said. Police also found a large amount of crack cocaine, oxycodone and marijuana that they believed he dumped from his car.

Darnell Damon Sprow, 35, of the 9200 block of Brentsville Rd., was charged with attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer and various drug counts.

Sprow is being held without bond. His court date is set for May 2.
