Prince George’s County Police arrested a man in Upper Marlboro on Wednesday, after he allegedly assaulted and attempted to disarm an officer.

Police officer Ebony Richardson and her partner responded to a domestic violence call Sunday morning at a residence on Keating Street, according to a news release. They saw Joseph Andoh Quarm, 30, leave the house.

As police began to question Quarm, he threw a punch at one of the officers and ran toward his parked vehicle, police said.Quarm resisted the officers’ attempts to arrest him, the release said.

Police said officers used pepper spray and a Taser. When Quarm reached towards one of the officers’ holstered guns, Richardson fired a shot at him. Quarm escaped in his vehicle, but police found and apprehended him Wednesday morning, according to the release.

Richardson is on administrative leave, as per departmental policy, said Prince George’s County police spokesman Cpl. Larry Johnson. Quarm has been charged with assault and attempt to disarm an officer.
