A swimmer vanished in the Washington Channel late Saturday and a search was under way, authorities said.
It was not immediately clear what preceded the incident, which occurred near the 1000 block of Water Street on the Southwest waterfront.
Matters began about 10 p.m. and a large-scale search was being carried out as midnight approached.
