Teen killed while pushing car in Fairfax County

A 19-year-old man has died after a car slammed into the disabled vehicle he was pushing along Route 7 in the Herndon area, Fairfax County police said.

The accident occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. Sunday night near the intersection of Route 7 and Drainesville Road, said Officer Don Gotthardt, a spokesman for the Fairfax County police.

The teen was likely pushing and steering his car with the driver’s side door open when the other vehicle crashed into the rear-end of his car, Gotthardt said. The 39-year-old driver of the other vehicle was flow to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Charges have not been filed. Police did not release the names of either driver, pending notification of family members. Route 7 was closed for a time as police investigated the crash, but has reopened.
