Youth, 14, robbed of purchases outside Arundel Mills Mall

A 14-year-old boy who had just left a store at the Arundel Mills Mall early Friday was punched and robbed of his purchases, according to Anne Arundel County police.

The teen was attacked a little more than two hours after the shopping center in Hanover, off the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, opened at midnight to promote Christmas sales on what has become one of the busiest holiday shopping days.

Police said the youth had walked out of the Bed Bath & Beyond store about 2:10 a.m. when five males came up behind him on the sidewalk. One man punched the youth, and another “stole a bag containing property the victim had just purchased, police said.

Police said the assailants — described as between 17 and 21 years old wearing black North Face jackets and blue jeans — then ran away in the direction of the Bass Pro store.

Authorities said the victim’s parents were contacted and that the youth declined medical treatment for a minor injury. Police did not disclose what items were taken.
