Teens involved in stabbing charged as adults

Police now say they have charged as adults two 17-year-olds believed to be responsible for stabbing and wounding a Northwestern High School student in an incident about a half-mile away from the school earlier this month.

In a blog post, Prince George’s County police said Wilian Josue Beza-Martinez, of Mount Rainier, and Yony Martinez-Barillas, of Hyattsville, were charged with attempted first-degree murder and other related counts in the Sept. 5 incident in the 6700 block of Belcrest Road. Police said the two 17-year-olds got into a fight with a 15-year-old Northwestern High School student — apparently a by-product of another fight the day before involving the 15-year-old’s cousin. The 15-year-old was stabbed several times with an ice pick but was expected to survive, police said.

Prince George’s police spokespeople had said previously the two 17-year-olds were charged as juveniles, and the person they stabbed was also 17.
