Thief targets vending machines at car washes, gas stations

A man is suspected of stealing money from vending machines, targeting car washes and gas stations in Charles County, authorities said Monday.

Since mid-February, the suspect has hit at least five vending machine locations, with most of the break-ins occurring during overnight hours, according to the Charles County sheriff’s office.

The targets have been the Extreme Car Wash in La Plata, Age to Age Auto in Hughesville, Speedy Clean Car Wash in Bryans Road, Extreme Car Wash in Waldorf and the CITGO Gas Station in Glasva, officials said.

Sheriff’s deputies are looking for the unidentified man, who is described as 5’8” to 5’10”, based on surveillance footage.

In most of the thefts, the man wore a baseball cap, gray pants and a blue-and-white-checkered hooded jacket. He drove an older model blue Ford four-door pickup truck with silver trim along the bottom, according to authorities.
