Three charged in connection with robbery spree

Police have arrested and charged three men with the robbery of a McDonald’s restaurant, and are investigating whether they are responsible for a string of armed robberies at gas stations, convenience stores and fast food joints across Prince George’s County last weekend.

Tony L. Waters, 24, of Laurel; Todd Wheeler, 24, of Laurel; and Brandon A. Cunningham, 20, of Largo, are charged with the May 12 robbery of a McDonald’s on Ritchie Road, said Capt. Genia Reaves, the assistant commander of criminal investigations in Prince George’s. She said detectives are exploring whether the men might have robbed at least five other businesses between Friday night and early Sunday morning.

Police had said Thursday they recovered a car that was used in the McDonald’s robbery, and Reaves said “community tips” were key in leading investigators to the three charged men. She said robbers took about $200 from the restaurant.

Reaves declined to say what specific evidence investigators had linking the men to the crime.
