Three men have been arrested in connection with a gang-involved assault in Montgomery County.
The three — Andres Jose Cortez, 20, and Cristian Javier Ayala, 17, both of Silver Spring, and Kevin Reynold Valdez, 19, of Rockville — allegedly assaulted a 22-year-old Rockville man at a party in the 1400 block of Silo Way on Nov. 4.
According to Montgomery County police, a dispute over the victim’s beer escalated, and a group of people the victim did not know struck him repeatedly in the face and head with broken bottles.
The victim sustained serious injuries in the assault and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Cortez and Valdez were arrested on Nov. 8 in connection with the assault, and Ayala was arrested on Nov. 14. Police announced the arrests on Monday.
According to police, the arrests stemmed from an investigation into a series of assaults and robberies that have occurred in recent months in the Wheaton and Good Hope areas of the county.
The incidents involved members or associates of an area street gang known as “Little R” or “La Raza,” police said.
Cortez was charged with attempted second-degree murder and first-degree Assault.
Valdez was charged with first-degree assault and conspiracy.
Ayala, a juvenile, was charged as an adult with first- and second-degree assault.
All three suspects are being held on bond and awaiting court dates, police said.
