Three suspects charged in fatal Woodley Park stabbing won’t face murder charges for now

Three teenagers arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of an Olney man will not be charged with his death, for now, prosecutors said.

At a hearing Wednesday in D.C. Superior Court, prosecutors said the three 17-year-olds — Deon Jefferson, Immanuel Swann and Gary Maye — will be charged with armed robbery in the Nov. 17 attack of Olijawon Griffin, 18. But Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Dillon emphasized that his office could still bring murder charges against the other three teens.

“My office hasn’t made a final decision,” Dillon told the judge.

A fourth 17-year-old, Chavez Tyrek Myers, has been charged with second-degree murder in Griffin’s death, but prosecutors have said they are looking at increasing the charge to first-degree.

At least 12 teens are said to have been involved in an altercation at the Woodley Park Metro station in which Griffin was robbed of a $400 Helly Hansen jacket, iPhone and baseball cap and then fatally wounded, prosecutors said.
