Three West Springfield High students arrested on child porn charges

Three West Springfield High School students were arrested last month in what officials say is an ongoing investigation into the production and distribution of child pornography.

The three male students — two who are 16 and one who is 15 — were charged as juveniles with “possession, reproduction, distribution, solicitation and facilitation of child pornography,” said Officer Shelley Broderick, a Fairfax County Police spokeswoman.

She declined to say precisely what the students were accused of doing but said their victims were six teenage, female students who knew the boys. She said the females attended various area high schools.

Fox 5 reported the males were accused of “getting teenage girls drunk and making sex tapes ... sometimes after the girls had passed out.” Those videos were allegedly shared among students, Fox 5 reported.

Broderick said the investigation began in November, when someone told a school resource officer about a “potential crime.” She said the three West Springfield High School students were arrested Jan. 11, and police did not publicize the case earlier because the investigation is ongoing.

John Torre, a Fairfax County police spokesman, declined to say what the charged students’ enrollment status was or what action school officials had taken in response to the investigation.

“We don’t comment on student discipline matters,” he wrote in an e-mail.

The school system did not conduct an investigation separate from that of police, he added.
