Traffic stop turns into cross-county police chase

Several suspects are still at large Monday morning after a driver and his passengers led police on a cross-county chase in an attempt to evade a traffic stop, officials said.

About 1 p.m. Sunday, a Takoma Park police officer tried to pull over a car on Sligo Creek Parkway. Instead of stopping, the driver attempted to outrun the police officer.

The driver was forced to stop when he came to a barricade on the parkway.

He then put his car into reverse, backed into the officer’s vehicle and continued to flee.

Police followed the driver through Montgomery and Prince George’s County, where the driver and the passengers bailed out of the vehicle.

One person was caught while the others fled, police said.

Officials did not indicate whether the suspect in custody was the driver or one of the passengers. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
