Two charged in connection with Sterling homicide

Two suspects were charged Tuesday in connection with the Dec. 27 shooting death of Jovaughn Johnson in Sterling, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Ryan B. Williams, 32, formerly of the Loudoun County area, and Linsey B. Hardwick, 23, of Leesburg, were charged with first degree murder, Sheriff’s Office officials said.

Authorities did not provide information about any connection between the victim and the suspects.

Johnson was found dead in his vehicle near Great Trail Terrace and Trail Run Terrace in Sterling on Dec. 27, authorities said. Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputies were initially called to the area shortly before 7 p.m. to check the welfare of a person who was later identified as Johnson, authorities said.

Johnson’s death was ruled a homicide by the State Medical Examiner, and the subsequent investigation led Loudoun detectives to several areas in Virginia and neighboring states, the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The homicide investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests are expected in the near future, authorities said.

“Our detectives have done an outstanding job of pulling this case together and we look forward to working with our Commonwealth Attorney in the prosecution phase of this case,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman in a statement Tuesday.

Williams and Hardwick remain held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center and are awaiting arraignment on the murder charges, officials said. Williams is currently being held on assault and battery charges stemming from a domestic assault, and Hardwick is held on possession of narcotics charges, according to authorities.

Anyone with any information regarding this case is asked to contact the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475.
