Two killed in separate Prince William crashes

A pedestrian crossing Lee Highway in Gainesville was fatally struck and a motorcyclist in Brentsville died in a separate crash early Sunday morning, Prince William County police said.

Officer Jonathan L. Perok, a police spokesman, said it was unusual to have two fatalities at daybreak on a Sunday. He said both were under investigation, and police are withholding the names of the victims until their families are notified.

Perok said officers first responded to a report of an adult male who had been hit by a car at 5:49 a.m. near the intersection of Lee Highway and Old Carolina Road. After the driver of a car traveling on Lee Highway struck the man, Perok said, the driver remained at the scene.

At 6:37 a.m., Prince William County police responded to a report of a motorcycle crash near the intersection of Bristow Road and Independent Hill Drive, where they found an adult male who lost control of his bike as he drove on Bristow Road. Police said the biker ran off the road and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
