Park Police report northbound Baltimore-Washington Parkway has reopened.
Updated, 7:45 a.m.:
Park Police said they are close to wrapping up the investigation and the parkway should reopen soon.
The Baltimore-Washington Parkway’s northbound lanes were closed Thursday morning after two people in a car were shot around 2:15 a.m., U.S. Park Police said.
The closure, inside the Beltway in the Riverdale area of Prince George’s County, was affecting the morning commute.
It was unclear whether the vehicle was moving or parked at the time of the shooting, said U.S. Park Police Sgt. David Schlosser. The car was on the northbound side of the parkway, north of Riverdale Road.
The victims were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police are still investigating the motive for the shooting.
The parkway’s northbound lanes were closed between Riverdale Road (Route 410) and the Beltway, with traffic being diverted onto Riverdale Road. Southbound lanes were not affected.
“The northbound B.W. Parkway will be closed for the next several hours,” Schlosser said around 5:45 a.m.
