Two men were shot, one fatally, on Tuesday night on a Southeast D.C. street corner, according to police.
Police said officers responding to emergency calls reporting gunshots found the victims in the 5000 block of H St. SE, just off Benning Road, in an area that is a mix of apartments, single-family homes and shops. The shootings were reported shortly before 11:15 p.m.
Police identified the dead man as 57-year-old Wayne Young of Northeast. Officer Araz Alali, a D.C. police spokesman, said he was struck several times. A police department Twitter message said that at least one of his wounds was to the head.
A second victim, described only as an adult male, was shot once in the body and taken a hospital, Alali said.
Police said detectives currently have little information regarding the shooting or the identities of a suspect or suspects.
Shortly before noon Wednesday, police in Southeast responded to another burst of gunfire about 3 miles from the Tuesday night shooting. It occurred in the 2800 block of Knox St. SE near Suitland Parkway.
Alali said that in the Wednesday shooting, an adult male was shot twice in a leg and taken to a hospital for treatment. Police said they arrested one man and recovered a weapon.
The name of the suspect was not immediately available pending charges. Police said that at of Wednesday afternoon, there is no indication that the two shootings are related.
