Two women shot, one fatally, in ‘domestic-related’ incident in Capitol Heights: police

A 25-year-old woman was killed and a 23-year-old woman injured in a shooting Sunday morning in the Capitol Heights area, and police were searching for a man they said is responsible.

Police said Brittany Sade McKinley, who lived in Capitol Heights, and a 23-year-old woman were both shot just after 6 a.m. in the 4600 block of Heath Street. Officer Edward Martin, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, said the women then made their way to an IHOP restaurant in the 9000 block of Central Avenue and called for help.

Mckinley died, Martin said. The 23-year-old was treated at a hospital and has been released, police said Monday.

Police said Michael Jerome Stewart, 33, of Upper Marlboro, is believed to have been the shooter. They said Stewart was McKinley's ex-boyfriend and had gotten into a confrontation with her at Irving's Night Club before the incident.

Police said that after security personnel threw Stewart out of the club, where McKinley worked, he went to McKinley's home and waited for her. As she and the 23-year-old pulled up, Stewart opened their car door and opened fire, police said.

Investigators on Monday evening were still working to locate Stewart, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Prince George's County police department's homicide unit at 301-772-4925.

Martin said the shooter — who remains at large — is believed to have had a “domestic relationship” with one or both of the women. He declined to provide details about that relationship.
