U-Md. student struck in head during home invasion robbery

A University of Maryland student was struck in the head during a home invasion robbery in College Park Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 12:45 p.m. in the 8400 block of 48th Avenue, authorities said. Cpl. Larry Johnson, a Prince George's County police spokesman, said the student was sleeping when someone kicked in the front door of the rental home.

Johnson said the suspect — or suspects — hit the student in the head with something and made off with property from the home. He said the student was taken to the hospital.
