Va. deputy charged in wife’s killing held without bond

ROANOKE, Va. — A former Franklin County sheriff’s deputy accused of killing his ex-wife and wounding a state police trooper is out of the hospital and in jail.

Media outlets report that 32-year-old Jonathan Agee was jailed without bond following his arraignment Thursday on a murder charge in the death of his ex-wife.

Agee is charged with fatally shooting30-year-old Jennifer Agee at a Roanoke convenience store on May 30. He’s also accused of shooting and wounding state police Sgt. Matthew Brannock in Montgomery County while attempting to flee.

Agee suffered a gunshot wound to the leg during the pursuit and appeared Thursday in Roanoke Circuit Court in a wheelchair.

Roanoke Commonwealth’s Attorney Donald Caldwell said Agee told the court he hasn’t yet hired a lawyer.
