VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach police are looking for a 23-year-old man who failed to show up at his sentencing on an involuntary manslaughter charge.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Harvey L. Bryant says Cameron P. Crockett of Virginia Beach was found guilty last week. A jury recommended he serve five years in prison and Crockett was to return to court on Monday for sentencing. After he failed to show up, a grand jury indicted him on a felony charge of failure to appear.
Court records show Crockett and 20-year-old Jack Korte were leaving a party in Virginia Beach in December 2008 when Crockett’s car struck a tree. Korte died at the scene.
Crockett was previously convicted in May 2011 but the jury couldn’t reach a decision on a sentence, resulting in a mistrial.
