Va. police: Driver with cable around neck decapitates self

Authorities say a Chicago man who quickly accelerated in an SUV with a cable around his neck decapitated himself after a domestic dispute in Yorktown, Va.

Local media outlets said deputies with the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, east of Williamsburg, responded to calls of a domestic disturbance Tuesday and found the man in an SUV that was pulling a utility trailer that was on fire. Police say they believe the man started the blaze.

Authorities say a fire department officer noticed a cable that was wound around the man’s neck and attached to a tree. When deputies tried to get the man to exit the SUV, he accelerated and was pulled from the vehicle and decapitated, they say. The SUV kept going for about 150 yards.

Officials aren’t releasing the man’s name, but say he was 46 and from Chicago.
