Va. police officer charged with rape, assault

NORFOLK, Va. — A Poquoson police officer has been charged with rape and assault.

State police said in a news release that the victim was a juvenile, although her age was not specified.

State police said the girl was interviewed by a nurse at the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters, where she was able to describe several assaults in detail. State police investigated the allegations after being contacted by the Department of Social Services.

It was not immediately clear whether the arrested officer, Steven McGee, had an attorney.

Poquoson Police Chief Cliff Bowen said McGee worked for the department for three years as a patrol officer. McGee resigned Thursday.
