Virginia State Police investigate fatal two-car crash

One man is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Stafford County Thursday afternoon.

Virginia State Police said two pickup trucks collided on Route 17 near Stafford Lakes Parkway around 4:35 p.m.

Witnesses told police that one of the trucks, a 1999 Ford F-350, was traveling north on Route 17 when it suddenly picked up speed and crossed into the southbound lanes. Now heading in the wrong direction, the truck struck a 2003 Ford F-350 head-on.

The driver of the 2003 truck was taken to Mary Washington Hospital, where he died Thursday night. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the 1999 Ford has been identified as 23-year-old Frederick C. Frostick III of Fredericksburg.

Frostick has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. He was also transported to Mary Washington Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Police are still investigating the fatal crash and did not say what prompted Frostick to cross into the southbound lanes. Police said speed was a factor in the crash.
