Virginia teen dies in morning crash in Fauquier County

A Fauquier County teenager on his way to school died in a single-vehicle crash Monday morning that also injured his sister, authorities said.

Virginia State Police, who responded to the scene just before 7:30 a.m., said a 1996 Toyota Camry was headed west on Route 644 near Route 806 when the driver lost control, causing the car to cross the roadway and hit a tree.

The driver was not injured, police said. The front-seat passenger, 16-year-old Ian T. Heflin of Catlett, died at the scene, while his 14-year-old sister Brianna was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital and treated for serious injuries.

All three were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, police said.
