Woman stabs mom’s boyfriend to death during argument

Kimberly Elaine Smith (Prince George's County Police Department)

The woman, Kimberly Elaine Smith, 28, was arrested shortly after the stabbing, which occurred just before midnight in the 1100 block of Kennebec Street, police said. She is charged with second-degree murder and related counts, police said.

Police said they were called to the scene for a report of a stabbing, and arrived to find Smith, of Oxon Hill, still there. Police said investigators determined that Smith had stabbed Charles Blyther Jr., 51, of Northeast Washington with a kitchen knife after Blyther got into an argument with her mother.

Police said Blyther and the mother were in a relationship. They said Smith “admitted to her involvement” in the incident.

The killing is the fifth homicide in Prince George’s County this week — a week that also saw a 3-year-old inadvertently run over by a car and two daughters and their father killed in a fire.
