Alexandria police are investigating an attempted sex assault Tuesday near the Holmes Run Parkway.
At about 9:45 p.m., a 23-year-old city resident was walking in the park near the community garden area, just south of the creek in the 5300 block of Holmes Run Parkway, when she was approached by a man, according to police.
The man began to talk to the woman and then grabbed her and pulled her into a secluded area where he attempted to sexually assault her, police said.
The victim broke free from the suspect and ran away, according to police. She was not seriously injured.
Detectives do not believe that this incident is related to a prior assault that occurred in the same area on Sept. 12.
Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call the criminal investigations section at 703-746-6711.
