Woman found dead in burning car in Ballston

A 74-year-old Annandale woman died in her car in an Arlington hotel parking garage Wednesday morning, police said.

Adele Lapinell’s car drove into a corner wall, hit a gas line and caused a small fire iunder the Hilton Arlington Hotel at 950 N. Stafford St. in Ballston, authorities said.

It was not immediately clear whether Lapinell was dead before the crash, and police said a medical issue may be the cause of the accident. Results of an autopsy are still pending, according to the state medical examiner’s office.

Police and fire personnel arrived on the scene around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, shutting North Stafford Street between Fairfax Drive and 9th Street N and evacuating several floors of the hotel, according to authorities.
