Woman rescued from Potomac River

A woman who was part of a group paddling down the Potomac River in a large raft was rescued Sunday morning and taken to a hospital.

The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service used boats and a helicopter to help the woman, who was in distress and had minor injuries, in an area of the river near Cabin John.

Capt. Oscar Garcia said the woman had been in a large raft when she encountered trouble. Garcia said her age and specific injuries were unknown Sunday morning.

Fourteen people have drowned in the Potomac River Gorge in the past two years.
