Prince William County police say two men were found shot Tuesday afternoon in Woodbridge.
The men were flown from the scene of the violence, in the 15000 block of Wentwood Lane, to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds, police said on the department’s Facebook page.
Police say they expect both men to survive.
The shooting was not random and it appeared that the shooters know the victims, according to police.
Residents in the neighborhood described it as a place that is safe and quiet, with little crime they could remember.
“It’s a shock for us around here,” said Jose Martinez, 46, who lives on the same block. He called police after he said he heard four or five gunshots around 4 p.m.
Martinez and other neighbors said they heard screeching wheels. Martinez said he saw two men lying on the ground, one barely moving and the other propped on his elbows.
Police surrounded one townhouse unit Tuesday afternoon, and police were moving in and out. Neighbors said those who live there had only been in the neighborhood for four or five months.
Sami Ullah, 25, said he has not seen any crime in the large townhouse community since moving in eight years ago.
As for the townhouse that police surrounded Tuesday, Ullah said he often saw the occupants sitting in chairs and smoking. But he never talked to them and said his father, who lives in the same unit, feared the young men he saw there, and had talked about moving.
“We never talked to them,” he said. “We are so depressed with what’s going on.”
Authorities said Tuesday night that a suspect has been detained.
