We’re not talking about that kind of trash, we mean garbage — literally. Gripers in the District have reported several instances of trash placed on
the curb too early, recyclables that aren’t properly contained and commercial trash left in front of businesses. Curiously, and worth noting, we couldn’t find any recent reports about this issue in Maryland or Virginia, symptomatic of city living?
Griper Jenny Decker has a problem with trash being stored on the sidewalk at 606 M St. NE and in the alley adjacent to the property.
“Some bags are not in cans - two at the moment,” she reported a month ago. “This situation attracts more garbage to be left in this area, obstructing the sidewalk for pedestrians and the alley for vehicles. A shopping cart has been left. The trash is unsanitary and is a haven for rats.”
Griper Sean Wieland reported trash near a Northwest school about a month ago.
“Seven trash bags are located next to the side entrance of West Elementary School,” according to Wieland. “The side entrance is along the 5100 block of 14th St. NW.”
We asked for the District Department of Public Works’ take on this and are waiting to hear back. In the meantime, send us your pics and reports of trash strewn around the city and we’ll feature them here. E-mail email@example.com , comment at the bottom of the post here or tweet us @TheDailyGripeWP.
