Henderson: Gray ‘exceeded expectations’

The words “Mayor Vincent C. Gray” and “exceeded expectations” haven’t spent much quality time in the same paragraph lately, but they did Friday, when DCPS Chancellor Kaya Henderson said fears that he would abandon Michelle Rhee’s agenda have proven unfounded. On WAMU’s “Politics Hour” Friday, Henderson sounded like her predecessor rhapsodizing about Adrian Fenty.

“Mayor Gray has been absolutely phenomenal. ... His commitment to school reform and education in general has, I think, exceeded all our expectations,” said Henderson, making the radio rounds before the first day of classes Monday.

She said she’s the sole city agency head who gets a regular weekly meeting with the mayor, and that he has “provided me with everything I need to be successful.”

You can listen to her interview with Kojo Nnamdi and Tom Sherwood, which includes call-ins, here.
