August 29, 2011

Add Malcolm X Elementary in Ward 8 to the list of D.C. schools closed today because of power outages. DCPS spokesman Fred Lewis said this morning that power went out overnight at the school, making it a late addition to the list of 13 other buildings that will remain closed:

Anacostia SHS, Beers ES, Coolidge HS, LaSalle-Backus EC, Orr ES, Oyster-Adams Bilingual School (Adams Building), Oyster-Adams Bilingual School (Oyster Building), Savoy ES, Stanton ES, Thomas ES, Turner ES @ Green, Whittier EC, and Winston EC.

Lewis said families should monitor the DCPS Web site, www.dcps.dc.gov, as well as DCPS social media (@DCPublicSchools on Twitter and facebook.com/dcpublicschools) for any updates.
