Moments after the Nats clinched their first-ever playoff berth Thursday night, players began wearing their postseason “Natitude” shirts. Every broadcast was filled with these images. At the same time, both Nats Park team stores — at the home plate and center field stores — started selling playoff shirts and hats.
While a few fans wondered whether a mere playoff berth really merited a special shirt, here’s one reason why it did: The MLB division title shirts all come from a standard design and don't allow much leeway in terms of color or slogan. So if you wanted a red Natitude shirt to commemorate this season’s success — and judging by the lines Thursday night, as seen below, a decent number of people did — a generic “postseason” shirt was your best option.
