ACC vs. ACC Lite

Some Local Poll voters this season took to calling the CAA "ACC Lite." And we all well remember the angels-on-the-head-of-a-pin debates those two conferences elicited this season. Was a middle-of-the-pack ACC team by definition stronger than a first-place CAA team? How many bad losses would be necessary to change that arrangement? How many good ACC wins could overwhelm any possible CAA winning streak? Why were some voters insisting on voting for James Madison every week?

Impossible questions to answer, right? Except in the NCAA tournament, where last year Mason knocked off UNC and this year VCU knocked off Duke.

But disregard those two results; now we have something even better. With a hat tip to the Recruiting Insider, and a bigger hat tip to Local Poll voter Jeff White of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, who actually did the reporting, I bring you The Commonwealth College Challenge, featuring ACC seniors facing off against CAA seniors. How great is that? It's the Local Poll event of the year, for sure.

The game is a week from Saturday at a Richmond high school; White reports Clemson's Vernon Hamilton, Virginia's J.R. Reynolds and Jason Cain, Va. Tech's Zabian Dowdell and Jamon Gordon from Virginia Tech, and UNC's Wes Miller and Reyshawn Terry will rep the ACC, and, aong others, Gary Neal, Jesse Pellot-Rosa and B.A. Walker will rep the CAA. Attendance is basically mandatory for any Local Poll voters wishing to preserve their voting status next season.
